They are in /home/user/MyDocs/.maps/
The tiles are shared with Maep and eCoach, and it seems that the size of each tile is about 8-16kb.

Final fix was 2 lines to stop and start USB (to reinitialize) when changing roles. The ID pullup was getting stuck on somehow?!
