Not knowing which keyboard you are using, I can only venture that perhaps one fo the keys is stuck down. I have had stuff like that happen with a PC keyboard when one of the function keys or the alt...

I can personally vouch for the BookDesigner software mentioned on that site, it's lovely. fb2 files are usually a bit more compact than .prc and .pdb files, and much compacted from .html ...:)
