Yup, indeed. aliendalvik is basically just android's JVM-clone.
It talks straight to the kernel running on the device and thus needs it to support the necessary android-specific APIs.

Just to clarify, do you think this is the reason the Jolla tablet is reported to have such bad battery life?

If so, that's great news that we shouldn't be affected, in a way it's a shame it isn't...
