I think part of the problem is thinking that something *new* needs to be developed (e.g. hildon-desktop). The thing is fvwm can duplicate the entire home page easily, except for the desktop applets....

LOL I have no idea! I'm not that savvy about the filesystems. All I know is, the filesystems are the same except for the journal that ext3 uses, which you are not using. That's why it all works...
