Re: Ovi Maps goes free for premium content (no N900 *yet*)

5800 owner here; I just updated the firmware to get the new Maps 3.0 application w/ free goodies. let me say i'm at least very disappointed.

- After update, you have to agree that the phone will...

Re: Any news on an extended battery for the N900?

Even if looking for an extended battery is a good approach, I would suggest looking for ways to make the phone draw less power.

I'm thinking things like having a software mod that automatically...

Re: maemo 4 port to 5800

Quick update... no progress :(. I was not able to make any sense of elf2boot files used to update Nokia devices, this was my primary attack vector.

I got another dev ARM board, with preloaded...

Re: Mobile browsers performance

I've tested this on a couple of iPhones, got from 44 fps (iPhone 2G, OS 3.1.2) to 87 ! (iPhone 3GS).

Desktop results around my testing vary from 64 fps on Firefox 3.5.4 and 65 fps on IExplorer...

why doesn't maemo get traction in the market

I'm finding myself surrounded by people who are enthusiast to say the least; but they are not driven by Maemo, they are enthusiast about Android and the Jesus phone, despite a significant share of...

Re: N900 device program for maemo.org developers and contributors

to qgil, because he doesn't get private messages:

It strikes me as grossly unfair that a developer with an application in top 30 downloads for OS2008 doesn't have enough karma to get eligible for...

Problem: Compatibility breaks between OS and device releases

I'm on a rant here, I'm frustrated and quite upset right now, so take this rant with precautions, and accept advanced apologies if I offend anyone.

Qgil, it seems to me Nokia has a big problem...

Re: Kernel source for 2008HE

Yep :o

You're right. But I tested several times with controlled conditions, changing just the kernel moves the device from rebooting every couple of minutes to stable for hours (actually it...

Re: Easter egg in the RX-51?

I'd love to see a docking station for this baby.

To me, ability to hookup a hi-res monitor and keyboard when I'm in the office, and have the desktop in my pocket when I'm away would be a killer....

Ari Jaaski says OSS must play nice with DRM and locked parts

So my hope for a totally free device from Nokia fades. Not that I saw that in the future anyway. Nokia is a commercial company, and giving away things for free will not make them any money. But...

Re: NITs - what are they good for... ???

Well, I don't know about you, but I actually like having my emails offline ... maybe this is why I loved the m105 ?

On a more general note, I'm not saying I don't see the purpose with the current...

Re: NITs - what are they good for... ???

NITs - what are they good for... ???

I've been an early adopter of NITs, specifically the 770. I've been uber-excited by the incredible possibilities of a Linux computer at my fingertips. And now, two years later, I'm quite...

Re: SD card maximum speed?

It would be a good idea to not use files with content all 0'es. Linux and a lot of UNIX filesystem implementations "caches" content of multiple 0 bytes (at least to a "sector" length) and does not...
