Re: The future of your Nokia Windows phone

This is a low blow. Let's not pretend Maemo updates have been in a walk in the park over the years, or have been done that often. Microsoft is scheduled to have 3 updates this year for WP7.

Re: A forward thinking strategy for Nokia - Do we even need a mobile platform?

You make a good point. The N900 was a pocket computer with a phone. Android, and iOS are phones with Apps. The problem with this is it's hard to explain in a 30 second commercial the difference. ...

Re: n900 looks like a toy compared to this

The sad thing is this would have been so cool if the phone would dock where the touch pad would normally be so the phone's display would double as the laptops touch pad.

Maybe waiting for MWC next month which is dedicated to mobile devices.

Re: Kinect open source driver released

The point with Kinect isn't the hardware - it's the software. The hardware is little more than a web cam and infrared emitter/detector for depth and 4 microphones for directional sound. The...

Re: PR 1.3 is live now! (Released 25 October 2010)

The difference is your telcom is providing the update not Samsung, HTC, etc.. They don't have to roll it out to the world. Not taking Nokia's side, but it's a bit different. Most websites are...

Re: PR 1.3 is live now! (Released 25 October 2010)

You can't complain about Nokia's upgrade methods when you have customized you device so much. Nokia isn't going to waste the time to write an installer that deals with every possible configuration.

Re: This is why Nokia is in the mess it is and us with it

I don't agree with this. I think Nokia's software engineers are as good as anyone else. Maemo was a sandbox. Name another company in 2006/2007 that was putting Linux on a phone sized devices (770)...

Re: This is why Nokia is in the mess it is and us with it

Large corporations do things that don't always make sense. Of course Nokia didn't innovate from a UI perspective over the past couple of years. That doesn't mean they've been doing nothing. Often...

Re: N9 is comng soon??

Yet it has HDMI out :D 640x360 has little meaning if you don't use the resolution for anything. Think of the iPhone 4 - what does it use it's Retina display for that couldn't be done at a lower...

Re: N9 technical specifications appeared rumoured

Apple adds hardware like it's a check list. Resolution didn't matter until they upped theirs (both camera and screen). What about adding a flash, wasn't important until they did it. In the end...

Re: N900 community support for the MeeGo-Harmattan release from Nokia

Maemo 6 is a transitional release. Basically Nokia was way down the road with Maemo 6 development when the MeeGo "merge" happened. Nokia could either delay the next phone or release what they had...

I agree with your points, but he has someone giving him the devices. It's the inside man that you want.

Re: Apps, apps and some more apps for your Nokia N900 [Maemo 5]

I think a lot of people on this forum miss the fact that talk.maemo.org/internettabletalk represent only a fraction of users that have the N900. We know they sold more than 100K in the first 5...

Re: First MeeGo phones will be N9?

Nokia still has the one feature Google doesn't and that's offline navigation. Which means no roaming when traveling between countries in Europe and when you don't have service you still have...

Re: [Petition] For Nokia to Open 100% of the Closed Components in Maemo 5/n900

Don't forget in some cases Nokia might not have a license to distribute the source. Nokia doesn't not design the Cortex processor, GSM, etc. The rights to these are purchased from their respective...

Re: Speculation about PR1.2

The advantage of keeping it secret is you don't have a firm date that users and the press will hold you too. Miss it and your stock price goes down. Currently they only have to deal with 10% of the...

Hmmmm, that way companies will want to keep producing good software for Maemo? No wonder Harmattan/MeeGo is moving to DRM. You probably shouldn't publish the fact you circumvented their...

Re: Why huge firmware releases instead of single packages?

Can't answer for Nokia but I imagine they do this so the platform is more stable and in a "know state". No one wants to see an update on their phone every couple of days like a desktop OS. It gives...

Re: Ari Jaaksi Keynote: MeeGo: A Free & Standard Linux OS for the Mobile Industry

MeeGo is not a new OS just a new distribution of Linux. A lot of the pieces have been tested for years on the desktop and internet tablets. That is one on the benefits of Maemo/MeeGo than Android. ...

Re: First screenshots of MeeGo mobile UX!

Don't forget this is MeeGo's default mobile UX, not necessarily Nokia's MeeGo UX. Each hardware manufacture can build their own UX just like Android. That's always Nokia's message about the N900...

Re: N900. After 5 month it's a total delusion

The N900 is more of a microcomputer than the iPhone because it runs desktop Linux, and using desktop Linux API's and programs.

You can't take a desktop OSX program, compile and run it on the...

From the FCC:
